Short facts

Booz & Company is the oldest management consulting firm still in business, the first to use the term “management consultant”.

In 1914, our founder, Edwin Booz, began conducting business research and solving problems for clients near his native Chicago. For nearly a century, we have helped our clients realize the essential advantage needed to survive, thrive, and win. In 2008, we separated our operations from our U.S. Government consulting business, which retains the name Booz Allen Hamilton. We continue our work with businesses, governments, and organizations around the world, now under the name Booz & Company.

In 2009, the firm combined with U.S.-based management consultancy Katzenbach Partners, a leader in the domain of organizational performance.

We offer all new hires a clearly structured career path and rapid career advancement. You will spend one to three years at each level on your way through the ranks of Consultant, Senior Consultant, Associate, and Senior Associate. Principals are typically promoted to Partner after three to four years.

However, when you join Booz & Company you don't have to fit into a mold to succeed. We offer talented professionals alternative career paths and a wide array of tools to proactively manage their professional and personal growth.

Success-stories

We have been involved in some of the most celebrated business episodes of their day. The dawn of the contract system for Hollywood movies, the merger of the National and American football leagues, the rescue of the Chrysler corporation from bankruptcy, and the creation of Deutsche Telekom from government agencies that had grown up on both sides of the Iron Curtain all involved Booz & Company assignments.

Booz & Company has always been known for foresight and impact. We are known for our deep industry and functional expertise across public and private sectors, our influential global studies and books, and our management magazine, strategy+business. We developed the concept of human capital in the 1940s, product life cycle in the 1950s, supply chain management in the 1980s, smart customization in the 1990s, and organizational DNA in the current decade.

Most recently, Booz & Company introduced the concept of Capabilities-Driven Strategy, founded on a pragmatic series of choices designed to help enterprises achieve increasing levels of coherence that can reliably and sustainably outpace competitors and create a right to win.

Our company culture and values

Being one of the oldest companies in consulting, needless to say we have strong traditions and values. We use significant resources on passing these values on to all our new staff through the on-boarding process.

Maintaining a Healthy Work-Life Balance

Working with the world’s most prestigious clients is hard work. At the same time, our people truly enjoy what they do. Our assignments are challenging, and our consultants enjoy working with other exceptional people to create and deliver essential advantage.

However, we realize that there’s much more to life than work. Both Booz & Company and our clients all benefit when our employees are happy, healthy, and leading well-balanced lives. That’s why it’s important to us that you’re able to reinvigorate yourself through personal activities that are important to you: that you’re involved—not only with Booz & Company and the business community, but also in the community where you live. We want you to be a powerful presence within the Booz & Company family, but we appreciate and embrace that our own families are most important.

Work-life balance is important to Booz & Company and our employees. Our flexible work option encompasses part-time employment and responsive scheduling for full-time employees so they can meet personal, family, educational, or community responsibilities. We also offer employees abundant opportunities to give something back to their communities through self-chosen projects, firm-sponsored volunteer activities, and pro bono assignments at non-profit organizations. Our talented staff welcome the chance to bring together their professional skills and personal service goals.

Mentoring & Assessment Process

Developing strong mentor relationships—both formal and informal—is a key to success at Booz & Company. To help you jump-start these relationships, you will be assigned a senior mentor and a junior mentor on your first day at the firm. Naturally, as you meet more people, you’ll form many informal mentor relationships. Make a point of reaching out to your mentors—they will help you navigate Booz & Company’s culture and processes.

Moreover, you will receive regular, constructive feedback on your performance. Our formal 360-degree performance assessment system is a uniquely effective way to develop our people and enhance their professional skills. Impartial colleagues from other teams conduct your assessments, interviewing you as well as people who work closely with you—your peers, seniors, and juniors.

Some companies produce things, but at Booz & Company, our only product is the innovation and know-how of our people. That’s why we hire the best and brightest and give them the tools they need to realize their professional potential and fulfill their career ambitions.
